Thesis:
“The Slave community” is a book written
by “John Blassingame” regarding the
serious issue of slavery and the struggle of African
Americans to endure the institution of slavery
at the same time, they struggled to Africanized
the American South. Therefore, with the passage
of time, they not only earned recognition as individuals
in the world at large but also achieved various
social and civil rights by the American constitution.
Though discrimination among African
Americans and the Native Americans is still a
common practice among the African Americans fabricated
under a sophisticated coating at all levels.
African Americans were originally transported
to North America as slaves of America. These were
the only ethnic groups arriving to the shores
of North America against their will. Ever since
the beginning they have been treated as minorities
and discriminated among the white Americans in
the entire social, economical as well as political
spheres of the American society. However, they
never lost faith and kept on struggling for the
survival of the institution of slavery to Africanized
the South Americans.
Therefore, they succeeded in achieving their
very rights constitutionally as well as theoretically
in some aspects though discrimination is still
practiced in America despite of their constitutional
and legal rights in the social, economical and
political areas in America.
African Americans And The Institution
Of Slavery
Therefore, slavery has been a very important
issue concerning the black Americans. However,
with the end of the civil war and the struggle
over reconstruction to achieve various civil rights
have marked the history of slavery in America.
Amongst the various aspects of slavery is forced
labor, which was practice inhumanly in the American
colonies.
Where the black Americans who were slaves were
forced to work in various agricultural areas.
They were forced to work in areas that required
extreme hard work and in return they were not
given any satisfactory or just amount.1However,
even the unskilled white Americans were given
good and respectable jobs where no such hard work
was demanded and they were earning a handsome
amount. So in this way slavery was used to exploit
the basic working rights of the black Americans.
At the same time, the institution of slavery in
the Southern part of America was more intense
and diverse as the percentage of slaves and the
nature of work made by them were according to
the size, location and the crops produced in these
specific areas.
On the other hand the relationship between master
and slaves were also verified. For instance, the
slaves in the cities were limited to jobs like
drivers, nursing, craftsmen and mill workers as
well as house servants. 2So they were enjoying
a better social and economical environment as
compared to the slaves in the rural areas.
However, with the passage of time, despite of
these variations in the institution of slavery,
the institution of slavery flourished with a noticeable
increase in the slave population.
The continuous importation of the African slaves
in South America by the end of 19th century tremendously
increased the slave population in the country.
With this the natural population growth of the
African slaves in America also increased and they
started developing a family system in America.
On the other hand these slave communities living
in America and giving birth to a new generation
started adopting the American culture and modifying
it according to their personal needs. 3Therefore,
they are now recognized as African Americans or
the black Americans instead of Africans
The Slave Community and African Americans
Africanized The American South
Though African Americans were mixed in the culture
of South America but they were humiliated in many
aspects. For instance, the Native Americans at
one side was forcing the black slaves at work
places to do work more than their potential with
out any just pay for that. On the other hand,
the marriages with slave families were considered
illegal. 4However,
with the passage of time, many slave owners started
promoting a liberal approach towards their slave
in regard to marriages.
Though the slave parents did not get any legal
status in the American South. At the same time,
the white Americans also sexually harassed black
slave women.
Moreover, the African slaves were also not given
any health care facilities, which was the most
disturbing thing for these black immigrants. On
the other hand the African Americans were deprived
of the basic right to educate their children.
Therefore, with the success of the civil right
movement, the African Americans won recognition
of individuals in America and also earned various
social economical and other civil rights.
Therefore if we trace back the history of the
slave community in struggling for achieving a
legitimate social status in America it comes to
our understanding that presently the African slave
have not only achieved to mix among the white
Americans and known as the African Americans but
have also succeeded in Africanizing the American
South.
They have developed various educational and health
care institutions for their own community where
African Americans are earning education and enjoying
various health care facilities with out any fear
or discrimination. Moreover, many health care
and educational institutions are also developed
that provide educational training and health care
facilities to both the African Americans and the
Native Americans with out any racial discrimination.
On the other hand the African Americans have also
achieved the support of the Church and various
religious institutions. Though both the African
Americans and the Native Americans have separate
churches for their religious practices, but at
the same time, there are many Churches that allow
religious practice with out any racial discrimination.
5 Moreover, with the passage
of time, the African Americans have also earned
sexual freedom and liberty and now we find even
intermarriages between the whites and the blacks
in the American South. At the same time, white
and blacks are also engaged into other sexual
activities and enjoying a friendly sexual life
with each other. Though black women are sexually
assaulted at work places similarly as white women
are. But the ratio to sexual assault over black
women is far more than the white-working women.
Therefore, developing sexual relationships among
both black and white men and women flourished
the family system with a noticeable speed. However,
still in America marriages among blacks and white
are not legitimate.
At the same time, since America is a democratic
country and its constitution provides its people
freedom of expression and various other civil
rights, both black and white do get into physical
relationship. But the consequences are immense.
On one hand, when black women get pregnant and
deliver babies that are born out of sexual intercourse
with white men, they are mixing in the culture
of American South. This is benefiting the African
Americans as they are striving to Africanize the
South America. While on the other hand, this is
posing threat to the white civilization has they
do cannot accept the blacks being equal to them
by any means in the coming future. Nor they can
accept the social mixing up of with the African
Americans.
The institution of slavery of the African community
in America has been a serious issue of concern
for both the Native Americans as well as the African
Americans. Though the slave community, which was
forcefully immigrated to American South, has not
achieved equal social status in America practically,
however, they have earned various civil rights
and a legal status of American individuals via
the constitution of America. At the same time
they have won recognition all over the world as
African Americans. On the other hand, the continuous
struggle to survive the institution of slavery
and achieving various social and economical rights
in the American society has developed a stage
that today we can say that the African Americans
have Africanized the American South. Therefore,
the African Americans not only struggled to achieve
various civil rights and recognition of individuals
in the American society but also mixed up socially
by developing family relationships both economic
and social with the whites and helped to Africanize
the American South.
